NUTRI-EMERGE: DO YOU HAVE THE F (Fibre) FACTOR?

Fibre or fiber has been mentioned several times in many nutritional advices due to its beneficial effects.

WHAT IS DIETARY FIBRE?

DIETARY FIBRE is a plant material that is resistant to our digestive enzymes and cannot be broken down into absorbable compounds in the small intestine (LPI, Oregon State University, 2020).

One work revealed a link between fruits and vegetables intake (containing dietary fibres) and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and premature mortality.

NHS (2018) even suggested that it might lower cholesterol levels in the blood. Also, it was mentioned that government guidelines published last 2015 stated that we should add more fibre in our daily consumption and should increase to 30grams daily.

TOLERABILITY

Most fibre sources have gluten component in it (such as wheat, rye, and barley) and sufferers should be careful in using certain fibre source as it may trigger allergic reactions inside the body (Liska, 2004).
